NIGHT AGENT equals mark in Red Mile dead heat

NIGHT AGENT, a 2-year-old son of CAPTAINTREACHEROUS, from the World Champion mare SHEBESTINGIN p,3,1:47 ($759,522), won his third straight Kentucky-eligible event on Sunday (Aug. 23), while equaling his own lifetime mark in a dead heat for win.

Driver Andy McCarthy sent the royally bred colt out to the top after being parked to the opening panel in :28.  From that point he set middle fractions of :55.2 and 1:23.3.  Off the turn Joey Putnam sent Just Perfect Stuff (5-1) out on a mad dash to catch the pacesetter.  Matching strides in deep stretch, the pair reached the wire simultaneously, with the racing officials declaring that both horse’s noses hit the wire at the same time in 1:50.2.  NIGHT AGENT returned just $2.10 as the 1-4 favorite.

His lifetime earnings have reached $33,100 for trainer Joe Holloway and owners Val D’Or Farms and Brittany Farms LLC.  He was bred by Hanover Shoe Farms. (Amanda Stephens photo).
